The US Dept of Veterans Affairs office in Salt Lake City, UT posted an article on their website regarding Veterans activities in the region. The author interviewed Ben Reed Sr. recently about the US Flags he displays in Lamoille, NV. It is a pretty cool story.

Great Basin Elks Lodge #1472 would like to announce the celebration of Flag Day on Friday June 14th. The ceremony begins at 5:00 p.m. and will last for about 45 minutes. This activity is free to the public. The ceremony will be held at the Masonic Lodge located at 576 VFW Drive in Elko.
The ceremony consists of the history of several flags from our nation’s past beginning with the Revolutionary War to the present. A discussion of the flags will occur during the presentation of each flag.
The history of Flag Day is observed on June 14th because on June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes for the flag of the United States. The first national observance of Flag Day took place on June 14, 1877, 100 years after the original adoption of the flag. President Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 stating the June 14th shall be National Flag Day. In 1949, it was made official by an Act of Congress.
Saturday May 25th, 8 a.m.- noon. Help us conduct an annual spring clean-up at the Hole in the Mountain to help prepare for our annual camp out in August. Work gloves are a must. Bring a chain saw, weed whackers, etc. Bring lunch and water.
